Our First 2016 Donations to Open Source

park.IO supports the open source community. We use and contribute to open source code, and pledged in 2015 to contribute with domains, starting with our donation of the domain angular.io to Google’s AngularJS open source project.

Perl is a programming language that was created by Larry Wall in 1987. It has been referred to as the “duct tape that holds the Internet together” because it is used everywhere. It powers popular websites, like the search engine DuckDuckGo, and it is what I built my first web application with. So, we are very happy to donate the domain perl.io to the Perl Foundation.

Gnome is an awesome desktop environment that is composed entirely of free and open-source software. It’s even used by Linus Torvalds, the creator of Linux. We are very happy to donate the domain gnome.io to them.

We have also provided discounted rates to a couple of open source projects, and are looking forward to donating more domains in the future!
